Bridget Christie shown the D'Or
Bridget Christie and Toast Of London have picked up awards at the prestigious international Rose d'Or festival.
Christie scooped the radio comedy award at the Berlin ceremony for her Radio 4 debut Bridget Christie Minds The Gap, which revolved around feminism.
The citation for the award said: ‘This was Bridget’s first radio show and she immediately adapted to the intimacy of radio as a medium, talking to the audience at home as much as the one in the theatre. She understood the need to draw her audience into the listeners’ world, paint pictures in their heads and take them on a journey with her.’
Tom Wrigglesworth's Hang Ups and Jeremy Hardy Speaks To The Nation were also shortlisted in the same category.
Meanwhile Toast of London, starring Matt Berry as oddball actor Steven Toast, won the sitcom award.
Co-written by Father Ted’s Arthur Mathews, a second series of the Channel 4 sitcom is already in the pipeline.
Other British triumphs at the event were Channel 4's Gogglebox in the reality and factual entertainment category, and BBC One’s Pointless, with Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman, in the game show section.
The 53rd annual ceremony, this year hosted by Croatian TV entertainer Aleksandar Kostadinov, gave out awards in nine categories following a record number of international entries.
