Preston comedy club to close

The Frog And Bucket is to close its Preston branch after five years.

Operators said simply ‘it was time to move on’ – with the last night scheduled for next month.

Their statement said: ‘It’s with massive regret that we are leaving Preston, it’s been a great city to work in and the audiences have been the most fun. It’s an honour to Preston that it’s perceived by comics as one of the best rooms in the country to play. It will be really missed, but it’s time to move on.’

Comic Dan Nightingale, who was born locally, said he was always unsure the town’s 114,000 population would be able to sustain a full working comedy club.

The club, an offshoot of the well-established Manchester club, will close on September 13, but Nightingale told BlogPreston that he hopes to continue the Beat The Frog new act night in a different venue.
