Two-part story for BBC Two

James Corden and Mathew Baynton are to make a Christmas special of The Wrong Mans.

The new story will play out over two hour-long specials on BBC Two, Corden told the Radio Times.

He added: ‘It was hard working out whether we do a whole new story, or try and pick up where we left off. I think we've found an outcome that we're all happy with.’

He also confirmed that Dawn French will also return as the mother of his character, Phil, while there will be a guest role for Bertie Carvel, who won an Oliver Award for playing Miss Trunchbull in Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly’s Matilda. ‘He's one of the best actors in the country, so it's brilliant he's agreed to be part of it,’ Corden said.

The series, about two council workers Phil and Sam, who get caught up in a criminal conspiracy, has previously been renewed for a second series.

Corden said: ‘It took us a long time to find out what the story could be next… It’s the plotting that's really hard. We never wanted it to be a parody of itself.’
