Katt: I never pulled a gun
Katt Williams has denied pulling a gun at the Los Angeles Comedy Store.
Police swooped on the venue on Tuesday night after the comic – who was in the audience, not on stage – allegedly threatened a heckler with the firearm.
Initial reports said the 40-year-old over-reacted when he was harassed by a punter who started making wisecracks about his 'height and race'.
Williams has now told celebrity website TMZ that he was 'verbally attacked and threatened' by four gang members who followed him out to his car. But he insists he never pulled a weapon, as he didn't have one.
Meanwhile, US comedy website Laughspin offers another version of events.
It reports that Williams got into an argument with a cameraman who was filming another comic for a documentary.
One onlooker said Williams told the man to stop filming, then became aggressive even though the cameraman complied. 'Katt was being outrageous and looking to fight,' the witness told the website. 'Guy is insane.'
Whatever happened, it appears the dispute moved outside the club, where police were called at about 2am yesterday. They locked down the Comedy Store and closed nearby streets, including Sunset Strip, but by that time Williams had already departed.
There is not thought to be an arrest warrant out on the comic, who is no stranger to them.
