BBC tribute to Bob Larbey
BBC TWO is paying tribute to comedy writer Bob Larbey on Satruday. The night kicks off at 8pm with a 15-minute tribute from Good Life star Penelope Keith, followed by the Comedy Connections programme about Ever Decreasing Circles and a behind-the-scenes documentary behind the scenes of the Good Life. Larbey died last month at the age of 79.
MIKE TYSON is to star in his own half-hour animated adult comedy, Mike Tyson Mysteries. In the series, for America’s Adult Swim channel, the former heavyweight champion of the world solves mysteries with a team that includes a ghost, his adopted Korean daughter, and a talking pigeon. Comedian Norm Macdonald co-stars, and the show is due to launch this autumn./b>
< NBC has announced the cancellation of campus comedy Community after five series – a year after it reversed an earlier decision to axe the show in the face of fan pressure. However with around 3.5million viewers in a prime 8pm slot, the sitcom has been underperforming. The network also confirmed the end of Amy Poehler comedy Parks and Recreation after the forthcoming seventh series, as widely expected.
A SHORT-LIVED ITV sitcom starring Joanna Lumley is to be released on DVD next month. Dr Willoughby lasted for just one series in 1999, with the Absolutely Fabulous star playing a scheming, manipulative actress on a hospital-based sitcom. The Radio Times Guide To TV Comedy described the shows as: ‘deliberately low-key, but some sharp shards of wit did cut through.’ Preorder DVD.
FRESH MEAT has been named best comedy at the Televisual Bulldog Awards. The Graham Norton show was named best panel, quiz or chat show; and Horrible Histories took the children’s award.
