Mormons triumph at Oliviers
THE BOOK of Mormon won four prizes at the 2014 Olivier Awards last night: best new musical, acting prizes for its stars Gavin Creel and Stephen Ashfield, and another for its choreography. Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense was named best comedy – while both Barry Humphries’ farewell show and Eric & Little Ern lost out in the entertainment category to The Wind In The Willows.
Stewart Francis has announced a new tour – starting in 12 months time. The 43-date Pun Gent tour kicks off at the Epsom Playhouse on April 16, 2015, and culminates with three nights at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre in June. Francis is also one of six comics performing a gig on Everest base camp this September – but his days of live work may be numbered, as last year, the Mock The Week regular said he was hoping to retire from stand-up to concentrate on cartoons and writing. IRISH comedian Steve Bennett has been named best newcomer by the WeGotTickets Musical Comedy Awards. The overall winner will be crowned at the final at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London on April 25. Finalists are Rogue 5, Laurence Owen, Bob & Jim, David Elms and Cribb & Morgan.
STEPHEN FRY has resumed work on 24 after being discharged from hospital after being treated for a painful skin condition called cellulitis. He tweeted that his was back on set this morning, where he plays the British Prime Minister.
James Corden is to go on a road trip around the UK with Gary Barlow for a BBC One documentary about the Take That star’s life.
