C4 unveils new Blaps
Channel 4 has unveiled a new batch of online Comedy Blaps, with series featuring Liam Williams and Roisin Conaty.
The shorts are intended to develop possible ideas for TV, and Conaty, who also co-starred in Greg Davies’s Man Down, has already landed her own broadcast pilot on the back of hers. Game Face will air on Channel 4 at 10.30pm on April 23.
Her three self-titled Blaps, which she also wrote, revolve around the shambolic character of Marcella, whose life consists of one-night stands, ongoing therapy and waiting for pizza deliveries.
Williams, a member of the comedy group Sheeps who made an acclaimed debut at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, has also released three Blaps. Channel 4 says the series ‘looks at everyday themes through his skewed and unique lens’.
The final Blap, Pond, is a sitcom set amid the torrid politics of television production with stars including Rufus Jones, Lucy Montgomery and Neil Edmond and written by Will Smith.
Channel 4’s head of comedy, Phil Clarke, Head of Comedy at Channel 4 says: ‘This is another brilliantly eclectic line-up of up-and-coming talent – and once again you can actually see how short-form content can grow into a fully-fledged pilot by watching Roisin’s brilliant portrayal of the hapless Marcella develop from Blap to standalone show.’
