CPS: 'Insufficient evidence' against comic

Jimmy Tarbuck will not face any charges over claims of sex abuse in the Seventies.

He was originally arrested in Surrey in April last year, after police working on Operation Yewtree tipped off North Yorkshire Police, who launched their own separate inquiry.

But now, after 11 months, the 74-year-old comedian has been told he will not be charged with any offence.

The force said the decision was made following a detailed investigation, and the Crown Prosecution Service said: ‘We have determined that there is insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction in relation to all complaints and have advised North Yorkshire Police that no further action should be taken.'

The original complaint related to an incident that was said to have occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was a young boy, but the CPS said six allegations made by six separate complainants had been investigated.

Today's news follows the decision that no further action would be taken against Jim Davidson over historic claims against him.
