iPlayer orders new comedies
Frankie Boyle, Bob Mortimer, Micky Flanagan and Stewart Lee are to make new shows exclusively for the BBC iPlayer.
The news came as the corporation unveiled a new version of the iPlayer, which is due to be the exclusive home of BBC Three under cost-cutting measures.
Few details have yet been revealed about the shows other than their titles, but they form a series of comedy shorts for the iPlayer that also includes contributions from Meera Syal, Morgana Robinson and Matt Berry.
Victoria Jaye, head of TV content for the iPlayer says: ‘Each comedian is doing a comedy short exclusively for BBC iPlayer, a ‘passion piece’ they’ve always wanted to do - these range from an Austro-German medical caper set in the Forties, to a live cookery show.
‘They are as long as they are funny, and will be available on iPlayer from May.’

The BBC also announced the commission of People Just Do Nothing, a comedy mockumentary about pirate radio station Kurupt FM and its crew, including MC Sniper, DJ Beat.
The writers/performers are a group of friends who were spotted by the BBC after making five-minute YouTube videos, They were previously commissioned to make Comedy Feeds for iPlayer, and have now been commissioned for four half-hour episodes for BBC Three, which will be available on iPlayer from May.
