Special episode being shot in Sydney

Rhys Darby is set to appear in American sitcom Modern Family.

The New Zealand comic has been spotted filming with Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who play Cam and Mitch.

His scenes were shot on the streets of Sydney, where the full cast of the ABC sitcom have decamped to film a special episode.

Flight Of The Conchords star Darby is believed to be playing a TV talk show host named Fergus, who is friends with the gay couple and shows them around the city. The casting call for the role described a him as a 'narcissistic character'.

Other characters cast for the Down Under special seem a little stereotypical. Australian press reported that producers were also hunting 'unbelievably hot' guys, a 'beach babe' willing to go topless and a 'Crocodile Dundee-type'.

The team will be in Australia until the end of next week.
