Calling all funny students
Entries have now opened for the 11th Chortle Student Comedy Award.
Again backed by mobile phone manufacturer ALCATEL ONETOUCH and Universal Pictures (UK), the competition comes with a top prize of £2,000 – as well as an invaluable leg up the comedy ladder.
Previous winners and finalists have included Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal, Tom Deacon, Joe Lycett, Adam Hess, Nathan Caton and Lloyd Langford.
Heats this year kick off in the University of Bristol Union on February 20. The final will again be held during the Edinburgh Fringe, with many of the finalists showcasing their routines at the Latitude festival in July. Click here for the full list of heats
Chortle editor Steve Bennett said: ‘We’ve found some amazing comedy talent over the past decade of this competition – and are really looking forward to seeing what 2014 will bring. Student comedy is surprisingly professional, with a wealth of creative comedians in a whole range of styles, and it’s great to see stars of the future so early in their careers.’
ALCATEL ONETOUCH UK head of marketing for UK & Ireland, Tracey Hudson said: 'We are delighted to be involved with this major hunt for new comedy stars, for a second year running. Last year, we were impressed by the variety of talent on display from these up-and-coming stars and can't wait to see what the class of 2014 has to offer.'
Universal’s managing director Ian Foster added: 'Universal Pictures UK is pleased to continue to support Chortle in their search for the newest upcoming talent.’
Entrants must be over 18 and in full-time tertiary education with five minutes of original material. Click here to apply and here to read the rules and full terms and conditions.
