Toby Foster back on air
Stand-up Toby Foster is to return to his breakfast show on BBC Radio Sheffield on Monday after apologising for publicly swearing about his boss.
The comedian was suspended last month after posting a tweet in which he dropped the C-bomb when talking about a manager who he claimed ‘pretty much’ sacked him.
However, the BBC issued a statement today saying: ‘Toby Foster has apologised to both BBC staff and listeners for the inappropriate tweets he sent before Christmas.
‘The BBC has accepted that apology and he’ll be back presenting the Toby Foster at Breakfast programme on BBC Radio Sheffield from Monday.’
A message from Foster has also been posted on BBC Radio Sheffield's Facebook page. It says: ‘I’m sorry there has been silence from me and the radio station about why I’ve not been presenting the breakfast programme.
‘Just before Christmas you’ll know I made some comments on social media which were totally unfounded and one in particular was offensive. I’ve apologised to everyone here at BBC Radio Sheffield and between us we’re looking forward to moving on and bringing you the best breakfast show we can. See you on Monday from 7am. Toby. ‘
The comic and Phoenix Nights star joined BBC Radio Sheffield in 2002, but landed in trouble in December when he tweeted that he’d: 'Got asked to go for a pint by BBC manager. Got pretty much sacked. Threatened to phone bosses. Cos he's a cunt. Lie in.'
He added: 'Was told by my editor that "one of us will go". After all these years at the Beeb.'
Foster subsequently deleted the tweets, but replaced them with one that read: 'Phone ringing like mad. I’ve spent 11 years talking about S Yorks. If it finishes now, I’ll be sad.’
Fans had set up a #saveourtoby hashtage which received the backing of Labour MPs Toby Perkins and Michael Dugher.
