E4 enters an alternate reality
E4 has commissioned a new fantasy comedy-drama from Being Human writer – and former stand-up – Jamie Mathieson.
The broadcaster has ordered an hour-long pilot of the the show, Alt, set in in an alternate universe similar, but subtly different, to this one.
It stars Gethin Anthony from Game of Thrones as a 24-year-old everyman and Craig Roberts – star of Richard Ayoade’s 2010 film Submarine – as his stoner best friend who ‘tumble down a 21st century rabbit hole’ to a parallel universe where they encounter different versions of themselves. And two assassins – played by Jason Flemyng from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Arsher Ali from Four Lions – are on their tail.
Commissioner Beth Willis says ‘ALT is a mind-bendingly funny pilot for E4 from the pen of Jamie Mathieson and directed by the brilliant Ben Caron. Milo and Danny [the central characters] are wonderful and useless and loveable. Expect the unexpected – and lots of laughs.’
Production starts this month.
Mathieson also wrote the 2009 film Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel and an episode of the TV adaptation of Douglas Adams’s detective series Dirk Gently.
