Globes triumph for Brooklyn Nine Nine
Brooklyn Nine Nine – the police precinct comedy set to launch on E4 this week – was the surprise winner of two Golden Globe awards last night.
The show scooped best comedy series, while its star Andy Samberg – the former Saturday Night Live performer recently seen in BBC Three’s Cuckoo – was named best actor for his role as the immature Detective Jake Peralta.
Some commentators suggest the double victory ahead of better-known shows The Big Bang Theory, Girls, Modern Family and Parks and Recreation may save the comedy from cancellation.
The 22-part series starts on E4 at 9pm on Thursday, although the first episode is already available to view online here.
Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the pair behind Parks and Rec, the ensemble workplace comedy attracts around 3.8million viewers a week to Fox, well down in the 6.2million who watched the debut in September. It also features Homicide star Andre Braugher as the straight-laced – and gay – commanding officer Captain Ray Holt .
In the Golden Globes movie categories, American Hustle was named best comedy or musical, with its star Amy Adams winning best comedy/musical actress; and Leonardo DiCaprio wining the actor category for his performance in The Wolf Of Wall Street.
