US Inbetweeners remake gets its director
Hollywood’s remake of The Inbetweeners movie has found itself a director.
Britain’s Jim Field Smith will take the helm of the new film, which is to be called Virgins America.
His credits include the movie She’s Out Of My League and the TV series Episodes and The Wrong Mans, James Corden’s upcoming series. He was also inthe sketch comedy group Dutch Elm Conservatoire, who were nominated for the Perrier Award in 2005.
The studio is still looking for a writer, as creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley are both busy with the sequel to the 2011 original, which is due out next year. Nor has there been any casting news on the American remake.
The original Inbetweeners film set a record for the most successful opening weekend ever achieved by a comedy film in the UK, and went on to take £56million at the box office globally. But just £23,000 of that came from the States, where it had a very limited release last year.
MTV attempted a US version of the TV series in 2012, but it lasted only one season.
