Rob Beckett joins Rizzle Kicks

For a C4 music show pilot

Comedian Rob Beckett is set to co-host a new music show for Channel 4 – alongside Rizzle Kicks.

The station is piloting two rival formats, with the aim of commissioning one of them for a full series in the autumn.

Beckett is one of the presenters of Smells Like Friday Night, along with the Brighton hip-hop duo and hipster model and presenter Billie JD Porter.

The pilot, which promises ‘cutting edge comedy and chat’ will be broadcast – and if it is picked up it will prove a major career boost for the London stand-up, who previously hosted ITV2’s reality show spin-off I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here Now!

But it will have to be commissioned over That Music Show, which will be hosted by Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw from ‘an iconic music venue’.

Both hour-long programmes (which are being developed under working titles) mix live performances with a pop quiz. They have been selected to go to pilot from more than 100 ideas submitted from independent production companies.

Channel 4 head of formats Dominic Bird said: ‘Bringing a mainstream audience to music is a real challenge and these two shows provide us with a great opportunity to put music back on the agenda.’
