Wonders down under
Rich Hall, Max & Ivan and South African stand-up Trevor Noah have all been nominated for the biggest live comedy award in Australia.
They are the overseas acts on the shortlist for the Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which was announced today.
They are joined by Australian acts Hannah Gadsby, Michael Workman, Kitty Flanagan and John Conway.
A newcomer shortlist for the award – named in honour of Barry Humphries – is expected early next week.
Also announced today were the nominees for the Golden Gibbo award for the best independently-produced local show. They are Kate McLennan & Wes Snelling; Simon Kech: Nob Happy Sock; Slutmonster & Friends; Bob Franklin, Stephen Curry & Steven Stagg: The Writers and Tommy Bradson.
Winners are announced next Saturday.
Last year’s Barry winner was Dr Brown, with Russell Kane taking the title in 2011.
