It's the Pyschobitches
More details have been released of the new series of Psychobitches – the Sky Arts series in which comedy stars play female historical figures on the therapists couch.
The broadcaster has now confirmed the show will return some time in 2013, after Jack Whitehall broke the news at the British Comedy Awards. He revealed that he would be one of the rare male comics making an appearance – playing Princess Diana in a role he insisted was ‘not disrespectful’.
The new will reunite all the League of Gentlemen team – Mark Gatiss, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton – with Jeremy Dyson, who is directing and leading the team of writers.
Sharon Horgan, who played Jane Austen in the original pilot, will appear as Eve in the new series. Also returning are Katy Brand, playing Mary Shelley, Sam Spiro as Audrey Hepburn and Rebecca Front reprising her role as the therapist.
New to the cast are Julia Davis as Sylvia Plath, Frances Barber as Bette Davis, and Kathy Burke as Mona Lisa.
The series will also feature Tamsin Egerton, Selina Griffiths, Zawe Ashton, Jo Scanlan, Sarah Solemani and Sharon D Clarke. Plus Harry Enfield as another of the token males.
Sky’s head of comedy, Lucy Lumsden, said: ‘We are very proud of Psychobitches, a honeypot for our funniest comedy actresses.’
The show also boasts a strong writing team, including Benidorm’s Derren Little, Pete Vs Life’s Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie, and writer-performers Lucy Montgomery, Kathy Burke and Holly Walsh.
