'We couldn't be happier'

David Walliams is to become a father for the first time, at the age of 41.

The comic took to Twitter to break the news that his model wife, Lara Stone, is pregnant.

He posted: ‘Some wonderful news. My beautiful wife Lara is pregnant. We are having a baby! It is due next year and we both couldn't be happier.’

The couple later put out a statement adding: ‘We're very excited to announce we are expecting our first child. We're both absolutely thrilled but ask you to please respect our privacy during this precious time.’

In an interview earlier this year, he said he loved being around his sister’s children, adding: ‘We definitely want children. It's a big responsibility so it's easy to put it off.

‘But then I'd imagine that there's no perfect time - a time when everything's tranquil in your life.’
