Charlie Brooker is to make a series of topical half-hour shows for BBC Two.
The new series, which has the working title Weekly Wipe, will mix monologue, sketches, studio guests and video insets.
Regular contributors will include American comedian Doug Stanhope, who featured on Brooker’s BBC Four show Newswipe, and vacuous fictional TV critic ‘Barry Shitpeas’.
Brooker said: ‘Every week we'll be looking at TV, games, “things in the ether”, the online world, and anything and everything in-between. And if we need to pad the show out a bit, we'll probably review egg whisks too.’
The six-part series will air sometime in 2013 – after Brooker has hosted his hour-long 2012 Wipe rounding up the year’s news stories.
Executive producer Chris Sussman said: Charlie Brooker’s 2011 Wipe was BAFTA-nominated. More has happened in 2012, so this time we’ll definitely win.’
The show will be made by Brooker’s production company Zeppotron.
Brooker is also expected to return for another series of Channel 4’s topical show 10 O’Clock Live sometime in 2013.
Edited: To correct the title of 2012 Wipe, which was originally given incorrectly by Zeppotron.
