Chortle kicks off Latitude

Student finalists open Suffolk festival

Chortle Student finalists have kicked off this year’s Latitude Festival.

As first act, Kwame Asante opened the comedy arena, which will later see performances by the likes of Tim Minchin, Jack Dee and Greg Davies.

The hour-long showcase also included performances by Johnny Pelham, Sebastian Bloomfield as Johnny F Monotone, Dalia Malek, David Elms and last year’s winner, Adam Hess.

The 2,000-capacity tent was full for the hour-long session, compered by Carl Donnelly, making it by far the biggest gig of most of the performers’ short careers.

The next time the new acts will share a bill will be at the final of the Chortle Student Comedy Award, powered by The Sims 3, on August 13 at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Music headliners at Latitude in Southwold, Suffolk, are Bon Iver, Elbow and Paul Weller.
