Student finalists to play Latitude
Finalists in Chortle’s Student Comedy Award will be taking to the same stage as Tim Minchin, Jack Dee and Greg Davies when they play the Latitude festival next month.
Our contestants will open the Comedy Arena at the acclaimed festival on Friday July 13, kicking off three days of top stand-up.
One of the finalists, Dalia Malek, had not played a single gig before entering the competition, which is this year powered by The Sims 3, and now she will be playing a marquee that, when full, holds up to 2,000 people.
The gig will be a memorable warm-up ahead of the final at the Edinburgh Fringe – when one of the young comics will receive the £2,500 first prize, as well as the invaluable boost the event.
Also playing the Latitude session will be Johnny Pelham, David Elms, Kwame Asante and Sebastian Bloomfield as Johnny F Monotone, as well as a set from 2011 winner Adam Hess.
David O’Doherty has also joined the Latitude line-up, where he will be giving a performance of his new stand-up show Seize The David O'Doherty on Saturday July 14.
