Blackadder 'the best show ever'

Comedies dominate Top 10

Blackadder has been voted the best British television series ever.

The poll shows the enduring appeal of comedy above other genres – with the top four places all going to sitcoms

Fawlty Towers was second, Father Ted third and Only Fools And Horses fourth.

The comedy run was broken by Dr Who at No 5 and Sherlock at 6 – both of which are now overseen by Stephen Moffat.

Completing the seven comedies in the top ten are Have I Got News For You (7), Red Dwarf (8) and The Inbetweeners (9). Top Gear came in fifth.

All of the shows except Father Ted and The Inbetweeners were made for the BBC.

A total of 13,500 people were surveyed by LoveFilm, whose edito Helen Cowley said: ‘With comedy featuring heavily in the top ten, the results reflect the very British dry sense of humour.’
