Steve signs for new Brit flick

Steve Coogan is set to star in a new film about Seventies soul music.

Singer Lisa Stansfield will also appear in the film, called Northern Soul, which is due to start filming in Bury, Bolton and Blackburn next month.

The film is about two friends who discover of black American soul music, then travel to the States to bring back rare records in the hopes of becoming DJs

Other actors cast include James Lance, Christian McKay, Roisin Murphy , Elliot James Langridge and Josh Whitehouse.

It will be the first feature film from fashion photographer Elaine Constantine

Coogan has just finished shooting The King of Soho, in which he plays real-life porn baron Paul Raymond, while an Alan Partridge movie is also in the works.

The news of his Northern Soul role was announced at the Cannes film festival.
