America picks up White Van Man

The show BBC Three didn't want...

White Van Man is to be remade into a full US series – after BBC Three axed the original.

The ABC network has ordered 13 half-hour episodes of the show, which has the working title The Family Tools as 'white van man' is not a common phrase in the States.

It follows a successful pilot starring Kyle Bornheimer and developed by Bobby Bowman, who was formerly executive producer on My Name is Earl.

The news comes just a fortnight after the BBC pulled the plug on the original version, starring Will Mellor, after two series.

It was the latest in a cull of BBC Three comedies instigated by controller Zai Bennett. In 18 months in the job, he has axed the entire comedy slate he inherited, except for Russell Howard's Good News.
