NBC to cancel 30 Rock after one more series

30 Rock is to be axed after one more – shortened – series.

America’s NBC network has announced that the TinaFey-fronted comedy will return for a seventh season of 13 episodes, and then dropped dropped.

The series, set backstage at a live TV sketch show, has been a hit with critics since it launched in 2006, but has never captured the imagination of viewers. Last week’s episode attracted an overnight audience of just 3.04million.

The final episode of series six, which comprised 22 episodes, airs in the States next Thursday. Comedy Central airs the show in the UK, about three months behind the US.

Meanwhile, the Fox network has renewed animated comedies Family Guy and American Dad for an 11th and eight series respectively, each comprising 22 episodes. However, it has postponed making a decision on renewing the spin-off Cleveland Show.
