Russell Brand heads for Sky

Atlantic picks up his first US show

Sky Atlantic has snapped up the rights to Russell Brand's new American late-night show.

Chortle reported in December that the Arthur star had landed his first US series, with the FX channel ordering six episodes of his topical show.

The broadcaster has since announced that the programme will be called Strangely Uplifting and launch at 11pm on June 28.

The same night will also see the premiere of Charlie Sheen's new comedy Anger Management, the debut of the third series of Louis CK's self-titled sitcom, and the return of Wilfred, the comedy starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann as a man in a dog suit that has aired on BBC Three.

Half-hour episodes of Brand's series will be shot in front of a live audience, and 'draw heavily' on interaction with that crowd.

ky Atlantic acting channel director Naomi Gibney said: 'We are actively building our slate of both originated and acquired comedy, and Strangely Uplifting is a key show that will further build the channel’s unique voice.'
