Happy Birithday, Douglas!

Big gig to celebrate Hitchhiker's genius

Friends of Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy creator Douglas Adams are to throw him a ‘virtual’ 60th birthday party in the Hammersmith Apollo.

Comedians, musicians and scientists will all be taking part in the event on March 11, the exact date that he would have turned 60.

The show will include Clive Anderson interviewing Terry Jones and Michael Palin about Douglas’ comedy legacy; a performance based on his book TheMeaning of Liff, featuring John Lloyd, Stephen Mangan, Sanjeev Bhaskar and others; and Professor Brian Cox, Robin Ince and Jon Culshaw talking about life, the universe and everything.

Proceeds from the show will go to the Save the Rhino charity, which Adams supported – and Stephen Fry has recorded a special introduction about Adams’s passion for conservation.

Adams died at in 2001, following a heart attack, at the age of 49.
