Radio 4 pilots 'foreign News Quiz'
Radio 4 is working on a new topical comedy show, to be fronted by Andrew Maxwell.
Small Earthquakes in Chile will be made by the team behind The News Quiz – but focussing on international stories than home-grown ones.
A pilot episode will be recorded in London next Wednesday, after producers put out an appeal for stories to feature.
News Quiz host Sandi Toksvig addressed overseas listeners on the podcast edition of last week’s show.
‘Now, exciting news.’ she said. ‘BBC Radio Comedy are making a new show about news from around the world that we here in the UK may have missed.
‘So if you’re listening to this outside of the United Kingdom, we’d like you to tell us what’s making the news where you are – whether it’s criminals in Canberra, a scandal in Sweden or an outrageous ocelot in Ouagadougou, we want to hear from you. Email us at newsquiz@bbc.co.uk.’
The shows title is based on the apocryphal headline, designed by sub-editors on the Times in the Thirties to bee the most accurate yet boring.
