And the People's Choice winner is...

Last student semi-finalist named

Alex Kealy, a 21-year-old Oxford undergraduate, has won the final place in the Chortle Student Comedy Award semi-finals.

The second-year history student – whose set revolves around wordplay – received the most votes in our People’s Choice poll.

Almost 6,000 votes were received overall, following the 12 regional heats

Kealy now goes on to appear in the Manchester semi-final at the Frog & Bucket on May 11. He will appear alongside Patrick Kavanagh, Chris Quaile, Glenn Moore, Matthew Winning, Red Redmond, Ben Lowes-Smith, Rhys Jones, Pete Otway, John Rushton and Richard Hanrahan. Click here for tickets.

The London semi-final takes place on the Tattershall Castle – a moored paddle steamer on the Embankment – on May 15.
