Julian's working for the Government now

Boosh star in Russian classic

The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt is to star in a new stage version of the classic Russian comedy Government Inspector.

He will be teaming up with Smack the Pony’s Doon Mackichan for the production at London’s Young Vic, opening on June 3.

Writer David Harrower has produced a new adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s script, which will be directed by Olivier Award winner Richard Jones.

The original – about small-town bureaucrats thrown into a ferny with the news of an impending government inspection – was written in 1836. Vladimir Nabokov described it as ‘the greatest play in the Russian language.’

Barratt recently starred in another Russian classic, Chekhov's The Bear, for Sky Arts, opposite his real-life partner Julia Davis.
