R4 bags a Showstopper

Improvised musical comes to radio

Radio 4 is to make a series based on the hit improvised musical show Showstopper!

Six episodes of the show have been commissioned, in which performers create a full-blown musical with songs, plot and characters based on suggestions from the studio audience.

The show was devised by the late Ken Campbell along with Dylan Emery and Adam Meggido, who are still in the cast, which also includes Ruth Bratt, Pippa Evans and Sarah-Louise Young, among others. Guest performers have included Matt Lucas and newsreader Jon Snow.

The live show, which has been a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, is currently in residence at the King’s Head Theatre in Islingon, North London, following a short national tour.

Radio 4 will be recording its version from late December to mid-February – see our free tickets page for details of how to be in the studio audience.

Meanwhile, Radio 4 is also making a series of four 15-minute episodes based on comedian Helen Keen’s live show It Is Rocket Science! about the early days of rocket technology.
