Hill's new peak

8 million watch TV Burp

Harry Hill's TV Burp has scored its biggest ever audience – with ratings soaring by three million in just one week.

Saturday’s edition was seen by 7.9 million people, according to overnight figures, or almost one in three of the entire TV audience at the time.

Yet its success on ITV1 did not damage BBC One, where 6.3million people watched the latest episode of Merlin, on at the same time.

And on BBC Two, the 90-minute reunion and clips show Return Of The Goodies attracted a respectable 1.77 million viewers on average. The figures may hearten those who have long been campaigning for the BBC to repeat the Seventies series in full.

And on Monday night, Miranda Hart's self-titled sitcom got off to a strong start on BBC Two, with 2.8 million viewers. That's up about ten per cent on the average from the third series, and more than 25 per cent higher than BBC Two averages in that 8.30pm slot.
