This could be a problem...
A venue is rejigging its schedules – after double-booking Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown and a business dinner with the Consul General of India on the same night.
Britain’s self-styled ‘rudest comic’ – who has frequently faced accusations of racism – is booked to play Bolton Albert Halls on Friday, the same night the dinner was to be held in the venue’s banqueting suite.
Brown’s managers say the council had been trying to move the show to another night to avoid embarrassment.
But the council says they have simply moved the Consul General’s dinner to a different room in the town hall complex, as using the banqueting suite could have meant interruptions by comedy-goers using the nearby bar.
Chubby’s booking agent Russell Bowers told the Bolton News: ‘We were contacted about two-and-a-half weeks ago to say the venue was wanting to have a look at this date and others in the future. We never got a clear explanation but it seems to be becoming clear.
‘Roy would never do anything to embarrass the town in front of such guests.
Council leader Cliff Morris insisted: I certainly didn’t ask for it to be cancelled. I wouldn’t go and watch Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown because I think he is a vulgar man, but he is very popular and people make their own decisions.’
Here is the sort of material the comic might be doing on Friday:
