Funny finalists named

So You Think You're Funny? talent hunt

The finalists in is year’s So You Think You’re Funny? talent hunt have been announced.

Whoever wins the long-running new act competition will scoop £2,000 and a trip to perform at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival. Past winners include Peter Kay, Lee Mack and Tommy Tiernan.

The final takes place this Thursday, and will be hosted by Rufus Hound.

The rookies – all of whom have been performing comedy for less than a year – are:

Rob Beckett: A 24-year-old South London, who won the Amused Moose Laugh Off competition at the weekend.

Laura Carr: A 23-year-old whose comedy is described as ‘fresh and sprinkled with just a touch of cheeky darkness’.

Alex Clissold-Jones: A singer and piano teacher from Oxford.

Pete Dobbing: A well-established Covent Garden street performer.

James Kirk: A 22-year-old from Paisley.

Romesh Ranganathan: A maths teacher turned aspiring comic.

Matt Richardson: Who last week appeared in the final of Chortle’s Student Comedy Award.

Chris Turner: A 20-year-old archaeology student

Liam Williams: A 22-year-old former Cambridge Footlighs member who is directing the troupe at this year’s Fringe.
