C4 plans new nightly comedy show

Late List in the works

Channel 4 is set to launch another daily topical comedy show in the vein of The 11 O’Clock Show and Tonightly.

The Late List, which is being scheduled for an 11pm slot, promises ‘a mix of established and new talent’ as well as celebrity guests and comedy videos.

It is being made by Princess Productions, whose credits include The Sunday Night Project and The Wright Stuff.

The first show will be filmed in London on September 6, although it is not yet clear whether this is a pilot or a show ready to be broadcast that night.

Producers say: ‘The Late List will bring you everything you need to know about “today” whether it's news, entertainment, sport or anything else that may prove a springboard to great comic material.’

They have previously put out a call for ‘real people’ who are ‘a bit of a character’ to take part, inviting them to record talking heads pieces to camera about news stories that have attracted their attention. John Bishop’s Britain on BBC One uses a similar technique.

Channel 4 recently moved back into topical late-night comedy with Stand Up For The Week, although no decision has yet been made about whether a second series will be commissioned.
