Sports spoof commissioned

Online parodists The Onion are to produce a ten-part spoof sports series for America’s Comedy Central TV channel.

The half-hour programmes will be based on the Onion Sports Network website and were commissioned following a pilot ordered in November.

Comedy Central’s head of original programming Kent Alterman said: ‘The Onion has such credibility in the comedy world, we feel fortunate to partner with them.

‘They will skewer the sports world, and the media coverage of sports, with the same sharpness we've seen applied to the world of politics and popular culture.’
