Coming soon: Star Wars, the sitcom

A new sitcom based on the characters of Star Wars is in the works.

The animation arm of George Lucas’s company has joined forces with Seth Green and Matthew Senreich – the comics behind the Robot Chicken Star Wars spoof – to work on the new show.

Few details have yet emerged about the project, but Green sent a message to Star Wars fans saying: ‘Let us assure you this isn\\\'t going to suck as much as you think it is.’

It will be a narrative, character-driven show, neither sketch nor spoof, with episodes up to half an hour long, the creators say.

Talking to Variety, Green added: ‘We\\\'re not talking about Jar-Jar electrocuting his tongue. It’s not that kind of humor. If George would have wanted to make that version of Star Wars, he would have hired other people to do it.

LucasFilms has previously extended the franchise with the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
