BBC Three unveils new sitcom

Mamma Mia! writer Catherine Johnson has written a new BBC Three sitcom about two young single mums who live in housing association flats.

Being Human star Lenora Crichlow, pictured, and former Emmerdale actress Ty Glaser take the lead roles in Dappers, described as ‘Del Boy and Rodders in thongs’.

A pilot episode was filmed in Bristol last month, and will air later this spring.

Johnson, who was a single mum herself, said: ‘People often think of single parents in a kind of negative way. I actually felt [when she was a single parent] that we were really, really positive about our ambitions and what we might do with our lives.

‘It's kind of weird because this is actually proof that I did something that was not necessarily what might be expected from my circumstances at that time.’

Eddie Large and Gwen Taylor play an ‘odd couple’ who live in the basement, while Darren Boyd and Olivier Poulet play neighbours who have moved from London in the misplaced hope of a quiet life.

Coincidentally, Channel 4 is also piloting a sitcom about a London couple moving to Bristol. Hung Out will air as a Comedy Lab pilot later this year.
