Rob's part of the landscape

Art honour for Brydon

Rob Brydon is to be made into a work of art.

A steel sculpture of the Gavin & Stacey comic will decorate a bench to be installed on a cycle path connecting Port Talbot to the Afan Forest in South Wales.

Richard Burton and local man Dick Wagstaff, a forest ranger, will also feature on the route. They are the first three out of a total of 80 sculptures that will be erected on cycle paths over the next three years.

Brydon said: ‘This is a great honour and I look forward to offering weary cyclists the chance to catch their breath. I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape.’

The three were chosen by residents of Cwmafan, a village on the route, in a scheme that will cost transport charity Sustrans £2million, including £400,000 from the National Lottery. Nationwide, the project has attracted £50million of lottery funding.

Sara Rees of Sustrans Cymru, said: ‘The Portrait Bench is a great example of how our everyday journeys can be made attractive and interesting.’
