C4 to remake its 'greatest comedians' list

New vote for top 100

Channel 4 is to rejig its list of the top 100 comedians of all-time.

Billy Connolly topped the chart compiled from public votes in 2006, followed by Peter Kay, Eddie Izzard and Richard Pryor.

Now the broadcaster wants to know if anything has changed over the past four years, which will form the basis of another extended run-down programme to be aired later this spring.

A panel of comedy experts has added some new names to the original longlist, which was today opened up for comedy fans to vote. This poll will be combined with the 2006 result to produce the new top 100.

A spokesman said their panel would ‘combine the list from the 2006 programme with the results from our poll… and using their extensive expertise and judgement, produce a bang-up-to-date 2010 version of the 100 Greatest Stand-Ups.’

Stewart Lee famously used his ranking in the original chart for the basis of his stand-up show 41st Best Standup Ever.
