Peter Kay pipped at the Emmys post

'Pop Factor' misses out on award

Peter Kay has lost out on the International Emmy for best comedy to a Japanese show.

His Channel 4 spoof Britain's Got the Pop Factor was one of nine British nominations in last night’s awards – but the comedy gong went to Hoshi Shinichi's Short Shorts, a part-animated series of fairy stories for grown-ups.

Kay made a rare trip away from his beloved Bolton to attend the ceremony, where Britain won five out of then ten awards. Julie Walters was named best actress for A Short Stay in Switzerland and Ben Whishaw best actor for Criminal Justice.

Graham Norton hosted the ceremony in New York, where David Frost was given a special award for his contributions to the TV industry.

Kay himself will be hosting an awards show of his own next February – when he fronts the 30th Brits.
