Cat Laughs gets new artistic boss

Bannon quits Kilkenny festval job

Kilkenny’s Cat Laughs comedy festival has a new artistic director, as former stand-up Eddie Bannon steps down after five years.

Rebecca Austin, who currently programmes the Assembly programme at the Edinburgh Fringe will be taking up the role for next year’s event.

Austin has previously produced the Brighton Comedy Festival as well as acts such as Kristen Schaal, Maria Bamford and Adam Hills & Jason Byrne. Before that she was involved in marketing for the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

Bannon, who took over the artistic director’s role from festival founder Richard Cook, will be moving to Australia with his partner, the comedy agent Carolyn ‘Flea’ Lee.

The 15th festival took place last weekend, with acts including Lewis Black, Lee Mack, Adam Hills, Ross Noble and Tommy Tiernan.
