Belly on the South Bank
Edinburgh venue comes to London
The Udderbelly, the marquee venue shaped like a giant purple upside-down cow, is to be erected on London’s South Bank this summer – and hosting a raft of comedy shows.Joan Rivers, Clive James, Katy Brand and Rhod Gilbert area among the acts lined up for the venue, which will be on the banks of the Thames from May 27 to July 19.
It is the first time the 20m high marquee, possibly the most distinctive venue in the Edinburgh Fringe, has been erected in London.
Other act performing in the E4-sponsored Udderbelly include 2008 if.comedy winner David O’Doherty and nominee Rhod Gilbert, plus Jason Byrne, Gina Yashere, Lewis Black, Reginald D Hunter and Jimeoin.
Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood, who are providing the programming as part of the Southbank Centre’s summer season, said ‘We hope that the unique atmosphere of Udderbelly and its surrounding Pasture will add to an already thriving Southbank Centre site this summer.’
