Bill Bailey banned for speeding

Caught on camera in Cornwall

Bill Bailey has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in Cornwall.

A speed camera captured the 43-year-old comic’s Volvo travelling at 40mph in a 30mph zone last July, when he was in the area for a performance at The Eden Project.

He was found guilty in his absence on December 10, and the case was adjourned for sentencing until yesterday, when he was given three points on his licence. It brought his total up to 15, triggering the ban.

The Cornishman newspaper reports that he appeared at Liskeard magistrates under his real name, Mark Bailey, and that he told the court he knew he was going to be banned.

He was also fined £500 with £60 costs and a £15 victims’ surcharge – which he paid immediately.

The case came up in the same week that Jimmy Carr got off a speeding charge thanks to the celebrity solicitor nicknamed Mr Loophole. He was allegedly caught driving his Bentley at 43mph in a 30mph stretch of the A40 in West London in June last year, but prosecutors moved the court hearing without telling the comedian.
