Paramount Comedy rebrands

...and orders new programmes

The Paramount Comedy channel is to be rebranded as Comedy Central from April – with new programming to match.

The broadcaster is owned by multinational giant Viacom, which also owns the Comedy Central brand in the US, home to the likes of South Park and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Much of the channel’s schedules will be filled by American imports such as Steve Carell’s The Office, The Sarah Silverman Program and brand new episodes of South Park, broadcast here at the same time as their US premieres.

But the channel will also be commissioning its own home-grown programmes for the first time in years. Among the new shows are a sitcom from stand-up star Jim Jeffries and and a pilot of Grumpy Young Men narrated by Peep Show’s Robert Webb.

As part of the facelift, which comes into effect on April 6, Paramount Comedy Two will be renamed Comedy Central Extra and feature programmes such as Sex and the City, Rules of Engagement, Everybody Hates Chris and The Office.
