Ventriloquist's show closes early

Two And Only last just three weeks

West End ventriloquism show The Two and Only is to close 11 weeks early.

Jay Johnson’s award-winning comedy show had been booked to run at London’s Arts Theatre for 14 weeks, taking it through to the end of September.

But it will now end on Sunday, just three weeks into its run, after struggling at the box office.

The show also closed early when it ran on Broadway in late 2006,despite winning a Tony award – although it did last two months there.

British critics, too, were generally appreciative of the show, giving it a raft of four-star reviews, but this did not translate into ticket sales.Click here for Chortle's review.

Yesterday, Johnson wrote on the show’s official website: ‘The show is closing on Sunday, July 13. I am taking it back to America. I would love for you to see it while it is here, but you only have seven more chances.’

It is the second show to close early at the Arts in a fortnight. The musical All Bob’s Women closed six days after opening, following a mauling from critics.
