How to be a laydee
David Walliams has written his first children’s book – and it’s about a cross-dressing boy.
The Boy In The Dress will be published in October and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
Publisher HarperCollins said the book was ‘all quite fun’, adding that it was ‘a fable about what happens when an ordinary boy does something extraordinary and the way that people, even the petty and cruel, can surprise you in the end’.
The 36-year-old Little Britain star, who signed a two-book deal with HarperCollins last December, said he had been a fan of Blake’s since childhood.
The illustrator is best known for his collaborations with Roald Dahl on stories such as Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.
Walliams said: ‘I am thrilled beyond measure to be working with the legendary Quentin Blake. I have adored his work since I was a child, and having him illustrate the book is a great honour.’
