BBC7 gets topical

Digital channel orders new sketch show

Digital radio station BBC7 has commissioned a new topical sketch show.

The channel, which predominantly relies on reruns of classic comedy, has ordered six half-hour episodes of Tilt to air in March and April.

The show will feature several names familiar from the live circuit: Margaret Cabourn-Smith, Katy Wix, Simon Brodkin, Isy Suttie, Oliver Maltman and Nick Mohammed.

The BBC said: ‘The people behind Tilt want to make a show that is playful and witty. We don't want to take the obvious angle on any story - and we'd rather not have to do impersonations of Gordon Brown.

‘The big stories of the week are told in running sketches set behind the scenes where the action really happens. Around that sit standalone topical sketches, headlines, monologues, spoof ads, spoof trailers and news parodies.’

The show will be recorded at Up The Creek comedy club in Greenwich on Wednesdays March 26 and April 30, and at the BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House on all the intervening Wednesdays.

BBC7 has also commissioned a second series of Spats, the show billed as ‘perfectly adequate sketch comedy’ featuring John-Luke Roberts.
