Genius on the box

Gorman's show set for TV transfer

Dave Gorman’s Radio 4 show Genius is set to transfer on to TV.

The show has been running for three years on radio, but now a one-off special is being planned for TV later this year. And if it proves a success, a series could be possible.

The programme invites ‘ridiculous, unworkable but sometimes genius inventions, schemes and policies’ from the public, which are then discussed by Gorman and a special guest. Ultimately the studio audience decides on the best idea of the show.

Gorman revealed the plan for a TV transfer on his blog, adding that the pilot recording is expected to take place at the end of November.

He wrote: ‘For now, all we know is that if we're making a new show we want to hear more of your ideas. If you've heard the show you'll know the kind of thing... although having said that, we don't want to have a load of ideas that are a bit like the ideas we've already discussed. We want to hear your ideas that are brand spanking new and y'know, genius.’

Ideas previously mooted on the programme include selling Bovril as a fizzy drink, breathalysers on your mobile phone to stop you from making regrettable calls and running the House of Commons by the rules of Just A Minute.

Suggestions should be sent to genius@bbc.co.uk.
